CLINTON, S.C. –
Victoria Hamilton (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) scored a career-high 18 points, leading Radford to a 70-60 win over Presbyterian College in Big South women's basketball action on Saturday night.
Hamilton led four Highlanders (6-19, 5-9 Big South) in double-figures, going 8-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the 3-point arc to help Radford snap an eight-game slide.
Kymesha Alston (Hampton, Va./Heritage) and
Kaylyn Crosier (South Charleston, W.Va./South Charleston) had 17 points each, and
Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) scored 12 off the bench for Radford, which hit the 70-point mark for the third time in the last four games.
After taking a 32-21 halftime lead, with 12 points from Hamilton and a 5-for-9 effort from 3-point range, the Highlanders connected on 52.4 percent (11-for-21) of their shots in the second half to put away the Blue Hose (5-22, 3-10).
Radford shot 46 percent for the game, finished 8-for-12 from behind the 3-point line and hit 72.7 percent of its free throws (16-for-22).
Amanda Mills led Presbyterian with a game-high 15 points off the bench, hitting five of seven 3-point tries. Dria David finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Mariah Pietrowski added 12 points.
Radford held Presbyterian to just 25 percent shooting in the first half (7-for-28) and at 33.3 percent for the game.
The Highlanders led the game from start to finish and had their first double-digit lead, 21-10, on Hamilton's layup with 9:34 left in the first half. Hamilton's 3-pointer at the 3:15 mark pushed the advantage to Radford's largest of the game, 29-14.
In the second half, Presbyterian could only get as close as seven points, on Pietrowski's free throws with 10:32 left that made it 46-39.
Radford continues its three-game road trip on Monday with a 7 p.m. contest at UNC Asheville.
