HIGHLANDERS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON FRIDAY AT LIBERTY

RADFORD, Va. --
Radford wraps up regular season play on Friday, March 5 when it travels to Liberty for a 7 p.m. tip at the Vines Center.

Heading into the Big South Tournament, the Highlanders (6-20, 5-10 Big South) are looking to end the season on a high note going after falling, 75-68, in overtime at UNC Asheville on Monday.

The Lady Flames (22-5, 12-2) are riding a five-game winning streak and currently in second place in the league following a 55-40 win at Presbyterian Monday evening.

The teams will be meeting for the 52nd time with the Lady Flames holding a 28-23 advantage. Following a 63-45 victory over the Highlanders on Feb. 1, Liberty has won six straight and 27 of the last 30. Radford is 8-15 in Lynchburg and 5-13 in the Vines Center.

In the first meeting, Liberty defeated the Highlanders 63-45 from the Dedmon Center on Feb. 1. Devon Brown finished with a game-high 20 points for the Lady Flames and 11 rebounds hitting 6-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Kylee Beecher was a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. She also tied three other Lady Flames with a game-best three steals.

Radford, who had its three-game home winning streak snapped, was led by freshman Da'Naria Erwin Spencer (Charlotte, N.C.) with 10 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Lindsey Thompson drained a three with 1.7 seconds in regulation and then UNC Asheville out scored Radford, 12-5 in overtime to earn a 75-68 victory over the Highlanders, Monday evening from the Justice Center.

Thompson, along with Kendall Shepard netted a team-high 15 points for the Bulldogs who snapped a three-game slide with the victory.

Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points for the Highlanders, hitting 5-of-9 three pointers. She also dished out a team-best five assists.

Buckhannon earned her second Big South Player of the Week honors after averaging 16 points, while shooting 57.9 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from long range against Presbyterian and UNC Asheville.

Liberty has won five straight and 14 of its last 15 after picking up a 55-40 road win at Presbyterian on Monday night.

The Lady Flames are paced by Devon Brown and Avery Warley. Brown averages a league-best 16.5 points and is third in rebounding (8.6). Warley, who shoots a league-best 59.7 percent, drops in 11.0 points per contest and is second in the Big South, pulling down 8.6 rebounds per game.

Liberty is tops in the NCAA in rebounding margin (14.6), second in scoring defense, fifth in field goal percentage, seventh in scoring margin and eighth in field goal percentage defense.

Radford will take part in the Advanced Auto Parts Big South Women's Basketball Tournament held March 12-14 at High Point University.
