MEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2010-11 SCHEDULE

2010-11 RADFORD UNIVERSITY MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE

RADFORD, Va. –
Another challenging non-conference slate and a full 18-game conference schedule highlight the 2010-11 Radford University men's basketball campaign, as released by fourth-year head coach Brad Greenberg Wednesday afternoon.

For the first time in 30 years, the Highlanders will begin a season with a pair of home contests in consecutive days as they host Emory & Henry on Nov. 13 before entertaining Methodist on Sunday, Nov. 14.

On Nov. 19, Radford, which will dress 10 freshmen and sophomores, will begin its first of three three-game road trips at South Carolina. The early-season swing will conclude with contests at George Mason (Nov. 24) and a first-ever meeting with Charlotte two days after Thanksgiving.

“Our young team will benefit greatly from our difficult non-conference schedule,” commented Greenberg. “Playing good teams early in the year gives young teams valuable experience.”

“I am excited that we are continuing our series with George Mason and beginning a three-year agreement with Charlotte. We will host both of those teams in Dedmon in the 2011-12 season.”

The most successful team (33-17) in Big South play since Greenberg took the helm; Radford will open its 18-game conference slate against UNC Asheville on Dec. 2 at the Dedmon Center.

After a date with Gardner-Webb on Dec. 4, the Highlanders will head to Charlottesville for a mid-week affair with Virginia (Dec. 7) at John Paul Jones Arena before returning home to host James Madison on Dec. 11.

Radford will play its second Colonial Athletic Association opponent in as many contests when the Highlanders travel to UNC Wilmington. The Dec. 18 meeting with the Seahawks is a return contest from last year's Bracketbuster tilt, which Radford won 76-68.

One of the highlights of this year's schedule will be a trip to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the Florida Gators. The Highlanders and the two-time National Champs (2006, 2007) will meet for the first time on the hardwood Dec. 22.

"Every year we give our team opportunities to test themselves against teams like Florida, South Carolina and Virginia - teams from elite conferences,” said Greenberg.

Following a Dec. 28 meeting with Dickinson, Radford will close out its regular season with 16 of 17 against league competition beginning with a New Year's Eve match-up at last year's Big South regular season champion, Coastal Carolina.

The Highlanders will conclude their weekend in the Palmetto State at Charleston Southern on Sunday, Jan. 2, before returning to the friendly confines of the Dedmon Center where they will play five of their next seven, all against league competition.

Radford, which is 14-2 in February the last two seasons, will put its impressive mark to the test as the Highlanders will play six of their final eight contests away from home, including a pair of three-game trips.

The 2011 Big South Men's Basketball Tournament will be played the first week of March, with the champion earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
