RU SUFFERS SETBACKS ON DAY ONE OF ROBERT MORRIS/DUQUESNE TOURNEY

VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ROBERT MORRIS IN SEASON OPENER, 3-0

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –
Radford fell to co-host Robert Morris 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 14-25) in the opening match of the Robert Morris/Duquesne Volleyball Tournament Friday morning at the John Jay Center.

Despite the loss, freshman Emily Carlin led the Highlanders with eight kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Desiree Aramburu tallied a match-high 25 assists and seven digs. Freshman Storm Melnick also added a team-high 15 digs for Radford in her collegiate debut.

Along with a team-high eight kills, senior Amanda Graham led Robert Morris with an impressive .571 attack percentage and three digs.

As a team, Radford hit just .061 hitting percentage, while Robert Morris finished with 11 total blocks to seal the win.

MONTANA STATE HOLDS OFF VOLLEYBALL, 3-1

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –
Montana State used a .250 attack percentage to hold off Radford 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 16-25, 12-25) in the second-round of the Robert Morris/Duquesne Tournament Friday afternoon at the John Jay Center.

The loss drops the Highlanders to 0-2, while Montana State improved 1-0 on the young campaign.

As a team, Montana State had four players over a .333 attack percentage, while Radford hit just .056 overall.

In just her second collegiate match, freshman Emily Carlin finished with 12 kills, eight digs and six block assists, while sophomore Desiree Aramburu tallied 31 assists and six digs.

Senior Laura Waddell and junior Megan McWhorter also added six kills each for the Highlanders.

Rachelle Allen and Taylar Barney each recorded double-figure kills for the Bobcats with 14 and 13, respectively, while Mackenzi Campbell led both setters with 38 assists and 13 digs.

The Highlanders will begin the second day of the tournament with Duquesne at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. before traveling back to the John Jay Center to take on Lehigh (3 p.m.).
