VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO DUQUESNE IN FOUR
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Despite Emily Carlin's first collegiate double-double (13 kills, 12 digs), Radford fell to Duquesne, 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 11-25, 19-25) on day two of the Robert Morris/Duquesne Tournament Saturday morning.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 0-3, while Duquesne remains undefeated on the young season with three wins.
As a team, the Highlanders struggled with a consistent attack percentage connecting on only .081 of their swings, while the Dukes hit .276 with all five starters recording at least eight kills.
Allison Foschia led Duquesne with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Sarah Svorinic added a match-high 40 assists.
For the Highlanders, sophomore
Desiree Aramburu recorded 35 assists, eight digs and five kills. Freshman
Jesse Miedema ended the contest with eight kills in just her second collegiate appearance.
After dropping the opening game, Radford bounced back with a 25-21 triumph in the second to even the match, 1-1. In addition to the Highlanders jumping out to a 4-0 lead, Aramburu highlighted the game with four kills (.800), 11 assists and three digs.
The Dukes took the last two sets by strong attacks and minimal errors to secure the match.

LEHIGH SLIDES BY RADFORD, 3-2, TO CONCLUDE SEASON-OPENING TOURNAMENT
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Lehigh held off Radford, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 10-15) in the final contest of the Robert Morris/Duquesne Tournament Saturday afternoon at the John Jay Center.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 0-4, while the Mountain Hawks improved 3-1 following the season-opening event.
The tightly contested five-game match featured 31 ties and 15 lead changes.
For the second straight outing, freshman
Emily Carlin recorded a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore
Desiree Aramburu added her first double-double of the year with a season-high 51 assists and 24 digs.
Junior
Carly Fleming also hit the 10-kill plateau for the Highlanders, while connecting on .381 of her swings.
Angelika Kopacz highlighted the match for Lehigh with 13 kills and 18 digs, while three other starters recorded double-figure kills. Jessica Kudirka and Dana Raber also added double-figure assists with 33 and 16, respectively.
After falling behind 2-0, the Highlanders bounced back with 31 kills and a .250 hitting percentage over the next two games to force a fifth and final set.
In the decisive game, the two teams battled to an 8-8 tie before Lehigh scored four unanswered to put the game out of reach and secure the triumph.
To go along with her double-doubles on Saturday, Carlin was named to the all-tournament squad by finishing the tournament with 51 kills, 48 digs and 11 total blocks.
Radford will host the second annual Radford University Tournament Sept. 3-4. The five-team event will start Friday at 3 p.m. on the main court of the Dedmon Center.
