VOLLEYBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT; SWEEPS GEORGIA STATE, 3-0

CHICAGO, Ill.
– Freshman Emily Carlin recorded 13 kills and 11 digs to lead Radford to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) victory over Georgia State in the first match of the DePaul Invitational on Friday afternoon at McGrath Arena.

With their third straight victory, the Highlanders improve to 4-5 overall, while the Panthers fall to 4-3.

To go along with Carlin's third double-double of the season, sophomore Desiree Aramburu recorded 40 assists and 10 digs, while junior Megan McWhorter charted double-figure kills with 12.

Highlighted by five kills and a .556 hitting percentage from Carlin, Radford took the opening game, 25-21. As a team, the Highlanders finished game one with 15 kills with a .303 hitting percentage.

In the second set, both teams rallied back and forth with 13 ties and seven lead changes before the Highlanders responded with three consecutive kills to secure the win, 26-24, and to go into the break up 2-0.

Trailing 20-22 in the third set, Radford closed on a 7-3 run with two service aces and five kills to secure its fourth three-game win of the season.

Freshman Storm Melnick and junior Leigh Myers also tallied double-figures with 17 and 11 digs, respectively, for the Highlanders.

Radford will return to the court at 7:30 p.m. (CST) to take on host DePaul.
