RADFORD, Va. – Highlighted by 13 home games, road tests against ACC and BIG EAST squads and eight in-state matchups, Radford women's basketball head coach
Tajama Abraham Ngongba announced her team's 2010-11 schedule.
The home schedule features five non-conference tilts, all against in-state schools, including late December matchups against VCU and Richmond, along with its eight-game Big South Conference tilts. Overall, the Highlanders face a total of eight Commonwealth schools during the non-conference slate.
When the Highlanders hit the road, they will face a pair of in-state ACC squads in Virginia and Virginia Tech as well as BIG EAST member Pittsburgh. Other non-conference road tests include; Howard, George Mason, Davidson, UNC Greensboro and USC Upstate.
“We have a very competitive non-conference schedule which I am confident will prepare our team for Big South competition,” commented Ngongba. “It includes several in-state rivals which provides us with some very strong competition right out of the gate and provides us with an idea of where we stand when we begin league play.”
Radford opens the regular season hosting Ferrum at home on Nov. 15. After the opener, eight of Radford's next 10 contests will be on the road, starting with Howard on Nov. 18 and concluding with the Hokies on Dec. 21.
The Highlanders begin a three-game road swing with the Bison on Nov. 18 and then travels to Pitt on Nov. 21 and George Mason on Nov. 26. Following the post-Thanksgiving tilt with the Patriots, who are head by former Highlander head coach Jeri Porter, Radford returns home briefly to battle with the Pirates of Hampton on Nov. 29.
In the month of December, Radford sandwiches five road games against Davidson, Virginia, UNCG, USC Upstate and Virginia Tech around a home contest against Southern Virginia on Dec. 9.
Following the Hokies, the Highlanders wrap up their non-conference slate, hosting in-state foes VCU on Dec. 23 and Richmond on Dec. 30.
Over the next two months, Radford will dive into the always challenging 16-game Big South schedule. The Highlanders open league play with six of their first nine games in the friendly confines of the Dedmon Center, closing out with a four-game stretch from Jan. 22 to Feb. 5.
Radford concludes the regular season the way it began, with five of its final seven contests away from home. Following their final two home games on Feb. 19 and 21 against Liberty and Winthrop, the Highlanders end with four straight on the road before heading to the Millis Center in High Point, N.C. for the 2011 Big South Championships from March 11-13.
