RADFORD, Va. --
Radford begins the 25th season Big South on Monday at 7 p.m. when it battles UNC Asheville at the Justice Center.

Game Notes

After falling in their final game of 2010 to Richmond, the Highlanders, who have dropped five straight, are looking to get back on track as they dive into the second portion of their schedule.

Against the Spiders, the Highlanders could not overcome a big first half run and fell, 73-50 on Dec. 30 at the Dedmon Center. Brooke McElroy paced Radford with 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals against Richmond.

The Bulldogs have won three of their last four contests after defeating Mercer, 76-73 on Dec. 30.

The Highlanders hold a 40-16 lead in the series that dates back to the inaugural Big South season in 1986-87. The teams split last season, winning on their respective home courts.

Radford has won five of the last seven meetings and is 16-11 vs. UNCA in the Justice Center. The Bulldogs won last season, 75-68 in overtime and have picked up eight victories in the last 10 contests in Asheville.

The Highlanders have been very successful in Big South openers, posting an 18-6 record, including six straight.

Road openers have been kind to Radford as it upended Gardner-Webb 68-53, last season to win its fourth straight and improve to 5-1 in league openers away from the Dedmon Center. This marks the fourth opener on the road in the last five seasons.

Entering the 25th season of league play, the Highlanders hold a 210-118 (.640) career record in Big South regular season games and 242-134 overall (.642) which includes tournament contests.

Radford returns to the Dedmon Center on Saturday, Jan. 8 to host Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m.
