Radford Volleyball welcomes Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina this weekend for a pair of pivotal Big South matches. The Highlanders face off against the Buccaneers on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Chanticleers on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both contests are in conjunction with the University's Fall Homecoming festivities.
On Saturday, the contest with Coastal Carolina will be Radford's annual Dig Pink match. The Highlanders will also recognize RU Hall of Famer and former Highlander volleyball head coach
Janelle Dobbins.
The Dig Pink campaign and the Side-Out Foundation raise funds and awareness in our fight against Breast Cancer.
Dobbins (Radford '55), a member of Radford is inaugural class ('95), served two stints (19 years) as the Highlanders' volleyball coach before retiring in 1993. Still the program's winningest coach, her teams were 369-219, growing from an unaffiliated small college team in 1971 to a NCAA Division I Tournament participant in her final season. That 1993 squad was the first Big South athletic program to participate in any NCAA tournament. After building Radford into a Division II power in the early 80's, she retired for three years, and then returned to win two Big South Conference titles in the early 90's.
Radford is coming off a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday to James Madison and looking to take advantage of these home league matches as five of their last seven Big South contests are on the road.
Freshman
