VOLLEYBALL HANGS ON FOR 3-2 WIN OVER COASTAL CAROLINA

RADFORD, Va. –
Radford had three players record double-figure kills as the Highlanders hung on for a 3-2 (25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-27, 15-12) win over Coastal Carolina in Big South volleyball action on Homecoming / Dig Pink Saturday at the Dedmon Center.

(Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) led Radford with 15 kills on 25 attempts (.480), while Emma Deininger (
Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) and Rachel Wiechecki (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) added 14 each. Leigh Myers (Baton Rouge, La. / The Dunham School) and Christine Beckham (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) put up 25 and 20 assists, respectively and Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas / Plano West) paced both clubs with a match-high 28 digs.

Wiechecki also added 12 digs to chart another double-double.
 
After trading points to find themselves deadlocked at 7-7 in the opener, Radford (10-12, 4-3) went on a 14-5 run to grab control and take game one, 25-16.
 
In game two, the Highlanders scored seven straight before taking a two games to none lead with a 25-15 win.
 
Radford hit .323 in the second and got seven kills from Wiechecki on nine swings (.778).
 
The third set featured eight ties and six lead changes before Coastal Carolina (8-15, 2-5) broke the game open with six unanswered and extended the match with a 25-20 triumph.
 
Game four was even more competitive than the previous thanks to 15 ties and six lead changes. With the frame tied 25-25, Coastal scored the final two points on Highlander errors to force a fifth and decisive set.
 
Trailing 11-10 in the final game, Radford outscored the Chanticleers 4-1 the rest of the way to secure the match.
 
Like Radford, the Chanticleers had three in double figures, including Erika Lightsey, who found the floor with 15 kills.
 
As a team, the Highlanders hit .212 (58-156) and recorded 10 total blocks, led by six blocks assists from Deininger.
 
Coastal Carolina connected on just .176 of its tries.
 
The Highlanders will enjoy a six-day break before traveling to Presbyterian Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. contest.
