UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Marist shot 66.7 percent in the second half and used a lengthy run (23-7) to defeat Radford, 60-47, in the 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off Sunday evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The setback drops the Highlanders to 3-3 on the young season, while the Red Foxes improve to 1-3.
Chavaughn Lewis led Marist with a game-high 17 points off the bench, while Devin Price contributed 16.
In addition to shooting 52.8 percent (19-36) from the field, the Red Foxes got to the charity stripe 28 times.
After Radford led for almost the entire first half, Marist took its first lead of the contest on a R.J. Hall layup at the buzzer to take a 22-20 advantage into the break.
The Red Foxes carried their momentum into the second half stretching the margin to double digits where it would stay the rest of the night.
Radford led 18-13 at the 3:45 mark before Marist outscored the Highlanders 32-12 over the next 14:08.
Senior
Johnathan Edwards (Queens, N.Y. / Tyler JUCO) was the lone Highlander in double figures with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Despite the loss, Radford pulled down 14 offensive rebounds while committing just 12 turnovers.
The Highlanders finished just 19-of-55 (.345) from the floor and went 6-for-10 at the line.
Radford will conclude its appearance in the inaugural event with a 7 p.m. televised contest at nationally-ranked Kentucky Wednesday evening.
