GAME NOTES

WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Radford women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in 2011-12 when they take on George Washington Saturday at 2 p.m at the Smith Center.

Head coach Tajama Abraham Ngongba returns to her alma mater, George Washington, for the first time as an opposing coach.  In addition to her school-record 2,134 points, Ngongba holds the school mark for the most points in one season (675 in 1996-97) and is tied with former GW assistant coach Lisa Cermignano for the most games played (130). She ranks second at GW in career scoring average (16.4 points per game), rebounds (970) and blocked shots (326).

THE OPENING TIP
♦ The 2011-12 squad became the first Radford team since 1983-84 to win four straight to open the season.  Its 329 points in that span were the most of any RU team that accomplished the same feat.
Da'Naria Erwin Spencer (Charlotte, N.C./East Mecklenburg) is leading the Highlanders in scoring at just over 20 per contest.  At this pace, she would hit 1,000 points in her career by the Gardner-Webb matchup Jan. 28.
Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) averages 15.8 a contest while Victoria Hamilton (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands/Antilles School) is just shy of double figures at 9.0.
♦ Under Ngongba, Radford is 23-5 when out-shooting the opposition and 20-8 when the Highlanders control the glass.  Radford is 4-0 this season under those circumstances.

SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
♦ George Washington brings a 1-3 record into Saturday's sixth all-time matchup with the Highlanders.  After a season-opening win at UT-Arlington, the Colonials lost three close contests to Morgan State, Virginia Tech and Auburn, all within eight points.  Sara Mostafa leads the club with 14.3 points per game and has gotten to the line 27 times.  In addition, Mostafa is collecting 6.3 rebounds per contest, second on the team to Tara Booker's 6.8.

NOTES
BACK-TO-BACK 20+... Erwin Spencer netted back-to-back 20-plus point efforts for the third time in her career thanks to 21 points against Upstate and 27 against UNC Greensboro.  During that 3-0 week, Erwin Spencer collected Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.

Out on the Break... Radford has an overwhelming edge in fast break points, 78-16, through the first four contests.

Forcing the Issue... Radford has forced 95 turnovers in four games leading to 109 points.  Thus far, the Highlanders hold a 109-44 advantage in that category.

Swipe It... Last season, Radford led the league and was ranked 12th in the NCAA in steals per game (12.3).  2011-12 has started off no different, as the Highlanders have had 59 steals (14.8) in four games.
