RUTV: VOLLEYBALL HOLDS ON FOR 3-2 SENIOR DAY WIN OVER CAMPBELL

RADFORD, Va. – After cruising in the first two games, Radford held on for a 3-2 (25-15, 25-16, 10-25, 22-25, 15-10) victory over Campbell in Big South volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center.
 
Prior to the contest, Radford honored seniors Carly Fleming (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park), Megan McWhorter (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic), Katelyn Meeks (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin), Yacine Meyer (Makawao, Hawai'i / Seabury Hall) and Leigh Myers (Baton Rouge, La. / The Dunham School).
 
The win moves the Highlanders to 13-14 overall and 7-5 in the league, while the Camels fall to 12-16 and 5-7.
 
Radford placed three in double figures led by Rachel Wiechecki's (Wilmington, Del. / Ursuline Academy) game-high 14 kills. McWhorter added 13 and Emily Hayes (Bartlett, Ill. / Bartlett) had 11. McWhorter, who was back on the floor after missing a majority of the season due to injury, also picked up 13 digs to finish with a double-double.
 
Freshman Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas / Plano West) led the Highlanders defensively with a match-high 25 digs.
 
Radford finished with 59 kills (.143) to the Camels 45 (.207).

In addition to connecting on .355 of their swings in the opener, the Highlanders raced out to a 10-3 lead and stretched it to as many as 13 (22-9) before taking game one, 25-15.
 
Game two wasn't much different as Radford led by double digits again before winning the frame, 25-16, and taking a 2-0 advantage into the break.

Wiechecki led all players at the half with nine kills, while Hayes contributed eight on just 14 attempts.
 
Behind a .500 attack percentage, Campbell rolled past the Highlanders 25-10 in the third to force a fourth game.
 
Trailing 17-10 in game four, Radford responded with a 10-2 spurt to go up, 20-19. After the two teams traded the next three points, the Camels scored four of the last five to extend the match to a fifth and decisive set.
 
In game five, the Highlanders raced out to a 5-1 advantage and never looked back on its way to a 15-10 triumph.
 
Jordan Reaves was the lone Camel to hit the 10-kill plateau with 10. Heather Wilson recorded 27 assists, while Campbell had three players tally double-figure digs.
 
Radford will conclude its regular season with a pair of road contests beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at UNC Asheville on Friday.
