Presbyterian (4-4, 1-1) opened the second half on a 20-7 run to stretch the lead to its largest of the night, 52-34.
Radford (3-6, 0-2) battled back and cut the deficit to just four, 68-64, on a
Brian Darden (Hampton, Va. / Phoebus) 3-pointer with 24 seconds left, but that's as close as it would get.
Presbyterian, which attempted 29 free throws after intermission, finished the contest 23-of-32 (.719) from the line. Radford went just 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.
Trailing 30-17, the Highlanders closed the opening period on a 10-2 spurt highlighted by eight points from Smith to cut the margin to 32-27 at the half. Smith, who played the last six minutes of the half, sparked the run with a trey and used a 15-foot jumper to cap it with nine seconds left.
Both teams committed just six turnovers, while the Blue Hose held a 36-35 edge on the glass. The Highlanders had 15 offensive rebounds, which led to 21 second-chance points.
Radford returns home to the Dedmon Center Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. contest with Charlotte.
