WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT LONGWOOD, 73-59

BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. Junior Sarah Tabb (Chesapeake, Va./StoneBridge School) recorded her first career double-double, but Radford was unable to overcome a 15-0 opening run as the Highlanders fell to Longwood 73-59 in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Willett Hall.

Tabb, who set career highs with 11 points and 11 rebounds, was Radford's bright spot in the second half, as all of her points and 10 of her 11 boards came after intermission.

Da'Naria Erwin Spencer (Charlotte, N.C./East Mecklenburg) led the way with a game-high 19 points. She reached the double-figure mark for the 11th straight game dating back to last season. Ashley Buckhannon (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) also chipped in with 12 points.

Longwood (2-6) began the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back, as nine of the 15 points came off forced turnovers.

Radford (4-2) countered the blistering Longwood start with a quick 7-0 run to bring the score within eight, 15-7.   The Highlanders pulled within eight one last time, 17-9, at the 13:49 mark on a fast break outlet pass from Erwin Spencer to Buckhannon, but that was the closest margin since 8-0.

Following the Radford bucket, Longwood responded with a 24-9 run to the end the first half ahead 41-18.

Brittanni Billups led the Lancers with 15 points while Mina Jovanovic and Erin Neal recorded 14 and 12, respectively.  Chelsea Coward did the work on the glass as she grabbed a team-high 10 boards.

The Highlanders will head to Lawrence Joel Coliseum on Wednesday, Dec. 7 to face off against ACC-foe Wake Forest with a noon tip.
