COASTAL STUNS HIGHLANDERS WITH SECOND HALF COMEBACK

Box Score

CONWAY, S.C. – Sydnei Moss scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the second half and Coastal Carolina stunned Radford with a second-half comeback to upend the Highlanders (10-13, 7-3 Big South), 55-54 Monday evening from Kimbel Arena.

Radford led by nine at halftime and 10 a few minutes into the second half before the Chanticleers (9-14, 3-8) stormed back with a 16-4 run to take their first lead (39-37) since the 12:51 mark of the first half.

The Highlanders briefly regained the advantage for the last time (45-43) at 2:20 when Ashley Buckhannon canned two freebies.

The lead was short lived as Coastal Carolina's Katie White tied the game with a short jumper, and after a missed shot, Moss put the Chanticleers up for good with 1:19 left on the clock. Radford attempted to rally hitting four of its last five shots, but Coastal drained its final eight free throws to secure the one-point victory.

Sophomore Victoria Hamilton led Radford with 13 points (5-8 FG), four rebounds and three steals. Senior Brooke McElroy matched a career-high with 15 rebounds as the Highlanders held a 46-36 edge on the glass.

Moss was just 6-for-17 from the floor and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Olivia Irik added 16 points, which included a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the charity stripe. The Chanticleers finished the contest, 22-28 (78.6 percent) from the free throw line.

Behind 10 points from Da'Naria Erwin Spencer and a stingy defense that held Coastal Carolina to 19 percent shooting, Radford took a 27-18 into the lockerroom.

A 15-3 run over five-minute span erased an 8-7 deficit and gave the Highlanders the momentum they needed heading into the half. Erwin Spencer canned her second triple of the game to cap off of the run and scored five points during it.

Erwin Spencer finished with 12 points as she was plagued with foul trouble picking up her fourth just four minutes into the second half.

Radford wraps up the home portion of its schedule with a pair of games on the Feb. 19 and 21. The contest on the 19th against Liberty is senior day as well as the Pink Zone contest. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 pm with the senior presentation during pregame. Also, wear your pink as the Highlanders spread awareness about the fight against breast cancer.
