MILLER'S LATE 3-POINTERS LIFT PRESBYTERIAN OVER RU IN OT, 52-49

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. –
After hitting a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, Pierre Miller canned two more in the extra session, including one with 19 seconds left to lead Presbyterian to a 52-49 victory over Radford Tuesday evening at the Dedmon Center.

“I feel for our guys,” said Radford's acting head coach Rick Hall. “They played hard tonight. Presbyterian just made more plays than we did at the end.”

With the Blue Hose trailing 42-39, Miller, who had missed his first eight attempts from the floor, drilled a 30-footer with 2.4 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

“At the end of the contest they went to four guys around the perimeter and Miller made the shots when they counted most,” Hall said.

Both teams went through lengthy scoring droughts and struggled offensively. The Highlanders shot just 35.6 percent, while Presbyterian hit 33.3 percent of its attempts, but was 3-of-4 in overtime.

Sophomores Blake Smith (Charlotte, N.C. / United Faith Christian Academy) and Gorkem Sonmez (Istanbul, Turkey) paced the Highlanders with 12 points each.

Jake Troyli led Presbyterian with 12 points.

Radford (5-21, 2-14 Big South), which started 7-of-8 from the floor, raced out to a 16-3 lead before heading to the half up, 22-18. In addition to their fast start, the Highlanders held Presbyterian (11-16, 5-10 Big South) scoreless for the first 6:11 of the contest and to just 25 percent shooting in the opening period.

After the Blue Hose opened the second half on a 17-5 run to grab their first lead, Radford responded with 11 unanswered to retake the lead, 38-35, with 7:33 to play.

Radford senior Jeremy Robinson (Baltimore, Md. / Tallahassee C.C.) was honored prior to the contest.

Gardner-Webb's victory over Coastal Carolina this evening eliminates the Highlanders from postseason play.

On Saturday, Radford will play its final non-conference tilt of the season when it travels to William & Mary for a 7 p.m. Bracketbusters contest.
