WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In addition to shooting 61.3 percent in the second half, William & Mary placed five players in double figures as the Tribe defeated Radford, 84-52, in men's basketball action Saturday evening at Kaplan Arena.
Jareal Smith (Savannah, Ga. / Johnson) led the Highlanders with a game-high 18 points, while
Tolga Cerrah (Ankara, Turkey) recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds (7 offensive).
Matt Rum paced William & Mary (8-20) with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Quinn McDowell added 13 points and 10 rebounds, Julian Boatner finished with 12 points and Brandon Britt and Marcus Kitts had 10 each.
For the game, the Tribe hit 52.5 percent of their attempts from the floor, including nine 3-pointers, while holding Radford (5-22) to just 30.9 percent shooting.
After racing out to a 12-2 lead, William & Mary stretched its advantage to 20 (32-12) with an 18-3 run before going to the half ahead, 35-20.
The Tribe started the second period 9-of-12 from the floor to extend the margin back to 20, where it would stay the rest of the way.
Despite the loss, Radford finished with a 43-42 edge on the glass.
Radford will resume Big South play and continue its stretch of three straight away from home to conclude the 2010-11 season with a 7 p.m. contest at Gardner-Webb on Thursday.
