LIBERTY SPOILS RADFORD'S SENIOR DAY

RADFORD, Va. –
Behind Avery Warley's double-double and commanding edge on the boards, Liberty spoiled Radford's senior day with a 66-50 victory in Big South women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon from the Dedmon Center.

In a battle of the top-two Big South teams coming in, Warley recorded a game-high 19 points and 15 rebounds as the first place Lady Flames (17-8, 11-1 Big South) extended their winning streak to eight games. She was near perfect from the field, going 7-for-8.

The Highlanders (10-14, 7-4) dropped their third straight and coupled with Gardner-Webb's win today, fall a half-game behind the Bulldogs in third place.

Radford was led by senior Denay Wood who tallied team-high 12 points, all on three-pointers, and six rebounds.

Wood, along with fellow seniors Kaylyn Crosier, Ciara Hayes and Brooke McElroy were recognized in a pregame ceremony honoring Radford's class of 2011.

Liberty's Tolu Omotola matched Warley with a game-high 19 points, which included a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. The Lady Flames outrebounded the Highlanders, 52-28, and had nine players with three or more caroms.

Liberty opened with the first six points of the game and led by as many as 13 (22-9) before taking a 27-17 lead into halftime.

After the Highlanders cut their deficit to five (14-9) on back-to-back jumpers, the Lady Flames went on an 8-0 run to grab their largest lead of the half (22-9) with 7:09 remaining.

Radford scored seven of the next eight points, including a triple from Erica Rivera, to get within 23-16 at the five-minute mark. Neither team hit a field goal the rest of the half as Liberty took its 10-point advantage into the lockerroom.

Warley netted 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and charity stripe. After a blazing start, the Lady Flames missed their last nine field goal attempts and shot 35 percent. The Highlanders hit for just 22.6 percent after missing their final eight shots.

Liberty broke open the ball game with a 13-2 run to start the second half and grab its lead of the game, 40-19, at the first media timeout.

The Highlanders, who shot 28 percent for the game, managed to cut the lead to 13 on three occasions, but were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

Junior Kahealani Vick and Rivera each dropped in nine points for the Highlanders. Vick also recorded five rebounds and a block.

The Highlanders wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Monday at 7 p.m. against Winthrop.
