CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jareal Smith (Savannah, Ga. / Johnson) of the Radford men's basketball team has been named to the Big South All-Freshman team, while teammate
Evan Faulkner (Sandy Hook, Ky. / Elliott Co.) earned a spot on the all-academic squad, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The first freshman in school history to lead the Highlanders in scoring, Smith appeared in 28 contests, while making 15 starts. In addition to averaging 9.4 points per contest, the 6-3 guard scored in double figures 12 times, including six of his last seven contests where he averaged 15.8 points per game.
Along with ranking second on the team in assists and free-throw percentage, Smith went over the 20-point plateau twice, including a season-high 25 points and eight rebounds in Radford's win over Winthrop.
Faulkner, a sophomore guard, earned his first all-academic honor with a 3.44 GPA as an Exercise, Sport and Health Education major.
