HIGHLANDERS TOP PANTHERS IN OT AFTER LATE HIGH POINT COMEBACK

BOX SCORE

HIGH POINT, N.C. –
Brooke McElroy scored a game-high 23 points and Radford survived another last second regulation comeback to defeat High Point, 79-76 in overtime Friday evening from the Millis Center. The Highlanders reached 11 conference wins for the first time since 1993-94.

The Panthers (14-14, 8-7 Big South) charged back from a late 11-point deficit behind a 15-4 half-ending run to tie the game with 19 seconds left and send the game into overtime for the second consecutive contest against the Highlanders (14-14, 11-4).

As in the first game, High Point grabbed the early advantage in the extra five minutes only to see Radford score nine of the final 12 points for victory.

With the win, the Highlanders can finish no lower than the second seed at next week's Big South Conference Tournament hosted by High Point. It also marked the first win in the Millis Center since March 3, 2004, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Panthers and an eight-game streak (two tournament games) in the building.

McElroy, who posted a new Radford high, canned 10-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range, to go along with eight rebounds and four steals. Her final trifecta was huge as it tied the game at 73 with 1:39 left in overtime.

Following another High Point turnover, Erica Rivera drained a foul-line jumper at 1:03 to give the Highlanders the lead for good. Rivera finished with eight points and four thefts.

After two free throws by Da'Naria Erwin Spencer gave Radford a three-point lead with seven seconds left, Mackenzie Maier's three-point attempt was strong and Radford corralled the rebound and the win.

Radford out rebounded High Point, 52-39 and registered 16 steals on the night. Denay Wood led the Highlanders on the glass with 10 boards, to go along with 14 points for her first double-double of the season.

Jurica Hargraves paced four Panthers in double figures with 21 points. Shamia Brown added a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Amy Dodd and Maier chipped in with 15 and 11 points respectively.

Radford fought back from an early 10-point first-half deficit and went into the lockerroom tied at 31-31. The first half comeback was highlighted by a 14-0 run over a six-minute span that gave the Highlanders their first lead of the game.

In the second half, Radford built an early nine-point lead (49-40) only to see High Point get within 49-48.

The Highlanders used a 10-0 spurt to grab their largest lead of the contest (62-51) with just over six minutes on the clock.

After two minutes of scoreless basketball, High Point went on its 15-4 run to send the game into overtime.

The Highlanders wrap up the regular season at Gardner-Webb on Sunday at 3 p.m.
