RADFORD, Va. – In its final event before the Big South Championships next week, the Radford men's golf team heads to Spartanburg, S.C. and will compete in the 23rd Annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on Apr. 11-12.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off with a Monday morning, shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. on the par-72, 6,648-yard course at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Radford will be amongst a field of 15 teams – host Wofford, defending champion East Tennessee State, Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Campbell, Elon, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian, Richmond, Samford, Stetson and USC Upstate. The Highlanders hold a 12-1 advantage against the Big South squads competing in this Invitational.
Redshirt-sophomore Weston Eklund possesses a 73.14 stroke average, fourth best in the conference. Senior Lane Hite seeks to continue the strong ending to his Highlander career, as he placed tied for 16th two weeks ago at Williamsburg.
Junior Michael Wade and freshman Matt Harman look to have momentum on their side. Wade matched his best finish of the season, with a one-under 143, while Harman tallied the lowest finish of his young career, matching Wade at one-under and tied for fourth at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate.
Junior Paul Woodson also came on strong during the second round last tournament. After shooting a five-over after 18, he rebounded with a one-over 73 on the final 18 to help Radford to its second-place finish.
