Nichole Beall Tied a School Record With Three Doubles

Box Score

RADFORD, Va. – Nichole Beall tied a school record with three doubles and Jackie Jenkins tossed a five-hit shutout as Radford completed a three-game series sweep over Coastal Carolina with a 6-0 victory, Monday afternoon from RU Softball Field.

Beall recorded the two-baggers in her final three at bats to finish 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. The mark tied Alex Roderick ('09), who set the mark against Detroit on March 17, 2007 at the Catamount Classic. The second baseman was 6-for-8 with five doubles, four RBI and four runs scored the final two games of the series.

In recording her fifth shutout of the season, Jenkins scattered five hits and walked one to improve to 13-2 on the season.

The Highlanders (28-14, 9-2 Big South) provided Jenkins all the scoring with three runs in the third and fourth innings.

After Hannah Ojeda singled and moved to third on successive errors by the leftfielder, Kristen Shifflett and Beall roped back-to-back one-out RBI doubles to give Radford a 2-0 advantage in the third. Shannon Keefe capped off the inning by executing a squeeze that plated Beall.

In the fourth, the Highlanders scored all their runs with two outs. The big blow was a two-run double off the centerfield wall by Beall. Taylor Cunningham added a sharp RBI single to right to close out the scoring. An error on the second batter of the innings allowed Beall and Cunningham opportunities to extend Radford's lead.

Ojeda doubled and scored a pair of runs for Radford, while Cunningham was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Ashley Bagwell (L, 9-12) suffered the defeated for Coastal Carolina (17-26, 3-6). She lasted 3.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Katelin Edwards kept Radford's bats at bay with 2.1 innings of one-hit shutout relief.

Jazmin Daigle recorded two of the Chanticleers' five hits, which included a double.

Radford heads down to Knoxville, Tenn. tomorrow, April 19 to take on No. 6 Tennessee at 6 p.m. Coastal Carolina returns home for a doubleheader against UNC Wilmington tomorrow at 4 p.m.
