SOFTBALL WELCOMES LONGWOOD ON WEDNESDAY

Live Stats

Radford softball makes a quick stop home when it hosts in-state foe Longwood for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 6. First pitch from RU Softball Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Highlanders (21-12, 3-2 Big South) look to bounce back from a game three loss at Gardner-Webb on Sunday. Radford did take the series, sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday by the scores of 7-0 and 3-0.

Longwood (18-7), winners of three straight, returns to action after a 10-day layoff. In their last contest, the Lancers swept a home twinbill from Hampton by the scores of 14-1 and 7-4.

Despite the defeat on Sunday, Radford has won eight of its last 10 and claimed its 17th consecutive Big South series, which is the longest streak in league history.

In those Saturday contests, Stephanie Dameron and Jackie Jenkins tossed four-hit and five-hit shutouts, respectively, while Nichole Beall homered in each game.

Beall's home runs give her a team and league-high eight on the season. She also leads the conference in runs scored (23) and RBI (24).

The twinbill shutout was the first for the Highlanders since the April 18, 2006 against James Madison. 16 days earlier against Winthrop, Radford registered its last doubleheader blanking in conference play.

Jenkins and Dameron, who are a combined 17-3, rank second and third in the Big South in wins, ERA and shutouts, respectively.

Jenkins (9-1, 1.00 ERA), who suffered her first defeat of the season on Sunday, has surrendered just six earned runs over the last 66.1 innings (0.63 ERA) and held opponents to a .209 batting average for the year.

Dameron posts an 8-2 record with a 1.71 ERA in 77.2 innings of work. She has made a team-high 22 appearances and held opponents to a .215 batting average, while walking a league-low five batters.

Brooke Short paces the Longwood offense, batting .405 with seven home runs, 25 RBI and 17 runs scored. Briana Wells gets the ball for the Lancers as she has figured in all 25 games this season. Making 25 appearances and 22 starts, the lefty is 15-7 with three saves. Tossing all but 28.1 innings, she has recorded a 1.78 ERA with 92 strikeouts.

The Highlanders head back on the road this weekend when they take on first-place Presbyterian (18-7, 5-2 Big South) in Clinton, S.C. with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Each day, the games begin at 1 p.m.
