SOFTBALL CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON AT CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

Radford Softball concludes its regular season on the road this weekend when it travels to Charleston Southern for a three-game Big South series. The Highlanders will play two on Saturday, May 7 at 2 pm, followed by the regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Radford (34-17, 13-2 Big South) sits atop the league standings on the final weekend of play. Despite dropping a pair of non-conference gamed at Elon last Saturday, the Highlanders enter this series on a nine-game Big South winning streak.

Charleston Southern (22-30, 8-7) is currently in fourth place a game behind Liberty (23-25, 9-6) and two behind Presbyterian (28-16-1, 10-8). The Buccaneers are coming off a 7-4 victory over Gardner-Webb on April 23, which snapped a three-game slide.

On the offensive side of the ball, Nichole Beall still paces the Highlanders posting team-bests at .362 with 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 42 RBI and 36 runs scored. Kristen Shifflett, who recently had a career-high 16-game hitting streak snapped, is batting .327 with seven doubles, four home runs and 24 runs scored. Taylor Cunningham is coming off a 3-for-5 performance in game two at Elon and has recorded a career-best 13 doubles and four long balls this season.

In the circle, Jackie Jenkins is 15-4 overall and 8-1 in the league. She sports the 10th best ERA in the NCAA at 1.12 (0.49 Big South) with six shutouts (4), while holding opponents to a .224 (.205) batting average. Stephanie Dameron is right behind her at 14-4 (5-0) with a 2.02 ERA (1.20) and has walked just eight batters, which is tops in the NCAA at 0.45 per seven innings.

Following this weekend, Radford will gear up for the 2011 Big South Tournament to be held May 12-14 at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
