HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- For the second straight contest, Radford volleyball was edged in five games as it fell to Manhattan 3-2 (22-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9) to conclude the Asics Invitational on Saturday morning.
Senior
Megan McWhorter (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) led Radford with her second straight 14-kill effort and posted a double-double with 11 digs.Freshman
Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas/Plano West) paced the Highlanders (0-2) defensively with 37 digs.

The Highlanders (0-2) raced out to a 2-0 lead after hitting .297 and a blistering .406 in the first two games.
Four kills by McWhorter and a 4-1 run after Manhattan rallied back to tie the match at 21-all keyed the game one victory. Radford led by as much as six twice before the Jaspers fought back to make things interesting late.
In game two, Radford registered 14 kills and just one error as McWhorter, sophomore
Emily Carlin (Downington, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and senior
Carly Fleming (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) each recorded four kills.
With game three tied at 12-12, a 7-1 run by Manhattan broke it open and kept it alive and forced a fourth game.
In the fourth game, the Highlanders pushed ahead 14-8 behind four more kills from McWhorter. However, the Jaspers erupted for a 14-1 run to grab a commanding 22-15 advantage. Radford rallied to 24-22 before Malia McGuinness put it away for the Jaspers.
A 6-0 run to start game five was all Manhattan needed to secure the victory.
Carlin added 11 kills and hit .318. Freshmen
Christine Beckham (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and
Jena Braden (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) combined for 42 assists.
Radford returns to action on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Elon. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
