Radford is coming off a 3-0 sweep at North Carolina Central on Tuesday evening and look to carry momentum from that victory into these early conference-weekend affairs. The Highlanders did fall in their league-opener last Friday, dropping a tough five-setter to Liberty, while Asheville defeated Gardner-Webb in five sets when they met last week.
In its mid-week contest at NCCU, Radford was paced by senior
Carly Fleming's (Manassas, Va./Osbourne Park) .600 attack percentage, seven kills, three solo blocks and four block assists. Freshman
Rachel Wiechecki (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) added 10 kills and five digs, while senior
Leigh Myers (Baton Rouge, La./The Dunham School) dished out a match-best 18 assists.
Wiechecki and Fleming pace the Highlanders with 112 and 100 kills, respectively. Fleming ranks fourth in the league in blocks (1.00/game) and fifth in attack percentage (.291). As a team, Radford is third in both those categories (2.07/.182), respectively. Defensively, freshman
Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas/Plano West) tops the Big South in digs (4.83/game) and owns two of the league's four 30-dig efforts.
Last season, Radford swept Gardner-Webb, posting a pair of 3-1 triumphs, while Asheville took both matches from the Highlanders by 3-1 and 3-2 scores.
Freshman Heather Feldman, coming off a 63-assist effort at USC Upstate on Tuesday, runs the GWU offense. She is dishing out 9.53 assists per game, good for second in the league and has also posted a team-best nine double-doubles. Laura Wilcox leads the attack with 138 kills and a league-best .381 attack percentage. Defensively, Evan Moffitt is third in the Big South at 4.66 digs per contest.
UNC Asheville's attack is paced by Cindi Miller's league-best 3.77 kills and Hallie Morse's 8.70 assists per game. Miller, along with Alex Stewart, lead the defense at 3.11 and 4.60 digs per set.
Radford concludes a brief three-match homestand with a non-conference tilt on Tuesday against North Carolina A&T at 6 p.m.
