RUTV: QUICK STARTS KEY VOLLEYBALL WIN OVER GARDNER-WEBB

RADFORD, Va. -- Radford volleyball used quick starts in all three games and never trailed to come away with a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-12) against Gardner-Webb in Big South Volleyball action on Friday evening from the Dedmon Center.

Sophomore Emily Carlin (Downington, Va./Bishop Shanahan) posted her second double-double in as many league matches with a match-best 11 kills and 11 digs. Freshmen Rachel Wiechecki (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) and Rachel Brummitt (Plano, Texas/Plano West) joined in defensively with 10 digs apiece.

Tyler Cockrell and Heather Feldman led the Runnin' Bulldogs' (4-12, 0-2) offense with seven kills and a match-best 19 assists, respectively.

Radford took an early 10-5 lead and did not relinquish it for a 25-19 game-one victory. Carlin and Wiechecki recorded four and three kills respectively. Wiechecki finished with seven kills.

Game two saw the Highlanders race out to 7-0 advantage and led by as much as 14 before grabbing game two, 25-16. Carlin (pictured) added seven more kills and six digs. Radford also recorded six team blocks, including two solo rejections and two block assists from freshman Emma Deininger (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven).

The Highlanders closed out game three after taking a 9-2 lead and hitting .419 to complete the sweep with a 25-12 triumph. Carlin complete her double-double with two more kills. Deininger added another solo block, and along with Wiechecki and junior Emily Hayes (Bartlett, Ill.), paced Radford with three kills.

Deininger finished the match with three solo blocks and five block assists as the Highlanders (6-9, 1-1 Big South) registered 11 blocks on the evening. Senior Leigh Myers (Baton Rouge, La./The Dunham School) directed the Radford offense with 18 assists.

Radford returns to the court tomorrow at 4 p.m. to host UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. Gardner-Webb heads to Liberty for a 2 p.m. contest at Liberty.
