RADFORD, Va. In a battle of the league's top point guards, Da'Naria Erwin Spencer and the Radford women's basketball team welcomes Dequesha McClanahan and Winthrop to the Dedmon Center Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest.   
 
McClanahan is tops in the Big South in scoring (20.1) and assists (7.1), and also ranks fifth in the nation in helpers.  Erwin Spencer is third in scoring (17.3) and assists (4.5). 
 
SERIES HISTORY           
♦ Radford owns a 52-10 overall mark against Winthrop in the Highlanders' longest standing series.  At home, the Highlanders have been nearly unbeatable, carrying a 26-3 mark.
♦ Radford has won three of the last four meetings at home and six of the last 10 overall over the Eagles.  In the last matchup, Winthrop defeated the Highlanders, 59-38, in the 2011 Big South Quarterfinals.  
 
THE OPENING TIP
♦ On this date, the Highlanders are 10-2 all-time and are undefeated at home 6-0. 
♦ Erwin Spencer has hit double figures in 22 of her last 27 contests and topped 20 or more in six outings this season.  Furthermore, she is now 101 points shy of 1,000 for her career, looking to become the fourth player in Radford history to hit the mark by the conclusion of her junior year. 
Ashley Buckhannon, Ayana Avery and Katherine Brockett have combined for 198 of Radford's 225 three-point attempts (.880).  In addition, the trio has 65 of the Highlanders' 71 (.915) makes from long range.
♦ The Highlanders dropped their first contest of 2011-12 when holding the opposition at or under 70 points.  Radford fell in the last two seconds at Coastal Carolina.
 
LAST TIME OUT
♦ Radford took the lead from Coastal Carolina, 56-55, with seven seconds remaining on a free throw by Buckhannon.  Shortly after, Olivia Irick completed a three-point play with two ticks left to steal a win at home against Radford, 58-56.  Erwin Spencer had 24 points, while Victoria Hamilton tied her career-high with 5 steals to go along with 14 points.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
♦ In addition to McClanahan's outstanding point guard play, Diana Choibekova records 16.4 points per game and is fresh off Big South Player of the Week honors for her 28-point average over the last two games.  Against Gardner-Webb, she tied the Big South single game three-point record by hitting 10 treys.  Currently she leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (3.8).
♦ The Eagles are second in the league in free throw percentage (.730), rebounding margin (+5.1) and are just behind Charleston Southern in three-point makes per game (7.8).
