CONWAY, S.C. – Despite a career-high 21 points from senior Daniel Mitchell, Radford fell at Coastal Carolina, 82-62, in Big South men's basketball action Saturday at Kimbel Arena.

Mitchell's previous best was nine points earlier this season against Gardner-Webb, as the walk-on finished 9-of-11 from the floor, while making all three of his attempts from behind the arc.

The Chanticleers, who shot 78.6 percent (11-14) in the second half, concluded the game at 65.9 percent, which tops the Highlanders' previous league-high (.643) from Tuesday's game with High Point.

After opening just 3-of-13 from the floor, Coastal Carolina made an impressive 26 of its last 31 shot attempts.

Anthony Raffa scored a game-high 28 points on 10-of-13 (7-8 FT) shooting to lead four Coastal Carolina (14-5, 7-2 Big South) players in double figures. Kierre Greenwood (17), Chris Gradnigo (13) and Sam McLaurin (10) also hit the 10-point plateau for the Chanticleers.

Radford (4-18, 1-9 Big South) shot just 38.6 percent and trailed Coastal on the glass, 36-22.

A Javonte Green free throw cut what was an 18-point deficit to 11 (64-53) with 5:21 left, but the Chanticleers responded with a small spurt to put the game out of reach.

Green was the only other Highlander in double figures with 10 points.

Coastal Carolina closed the first half on a 35-11 run to take a 41-23 lead at the half.

In addition to his club shooting 60 percent in the opening period, Raffa led all players with 13 points at the break.

Radford will play six of its last nine regular season contests at home beginning with VMI on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
