WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUTS PRESBYTERIAN, 53-29

RADFORD, Va. The Highlander defense held Presbyterian to just 25 percent shooting and Ashley Buckhannon dialed up a game-high 17 points as Radford women's basketball took a 53-29 victory Monday evening at the Dedmon Center.
 
Buckhannon led all scorers with 17 points, while Da'Naria Erwin Spencer recorded 14.  Erwin Spencer also dished out three dimes and is now one shy of breaking into Radford's all-time top ten in career assists.  Sarah Tabb led the way on the glass with seven boards to go along with six points.

"I'm really proud of our defensive intensity tonight.  We really played well as a team on both ends," commented head coach Tajama Abraham Ngongba.

Dria David was the lone player in double figures for the Blue Hose with 12 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
 
The 84 points between the two teams tied a Dedmon Center record for the fewest combined points in a game.
 
Radford (8-10, 2-5 Big South) held Presbyterian (8-10, 2-5 Big South) to just 19 percent shooting (5-of-26) in the first stanza and 25 percent (12-of-47) overall.  The Highlanders tallied 20 steals, forced 25 miscues and converted those into 23 points on the other end.  Nine of the 10 players who saw action recorded at least one steal. 
 
Following a 5-0 Radford start, Presbyterian scored six unanswered to grab its only lead of the game, 6-5. 
 
The Highlanders countered with an 18-2 spurt over the next 10:17 and stretched its lead to out as many as 15 points until going into intermission up by 17, 29-12.
 
The Highlanders play the first of a four-game set away from home on Jan. 28 at Gardner-Webb.  Game-time is set for 3 p.m.
