HOT SHOOTING FIRST HALF LEADS HIGH POINT OVER RADFORD, 81-65

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. High Point shot 61 percent in the first half and Erin Reynolds scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Panthers past Radford women's basketball, 81-65, Monday night at the Dedmon Center.

After draining their first six buckets of the game, the Panthers raced out to a 30-9 advantage over the first 9:08 and led for all but nine seconds in the contest.  For the game, High Point (9-6, 4-0 Big South) had a significant edge at the free throw line, knocking down 21 of its 25 attempts.

Behind Reynolds' 24 points, Shamia Brown tallied 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Cheyenne Parker recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The loss moves Radford to 12-2 at home under head coach Tajama Abraham Ngongba in the month of January, with both losses coming at the hands of High Point and on the same date, as Radford fell 67-78 on Jan. 9, 2010.

Radford (7-7, 1-2 Big South) placed four in double figures, led by
Ashley Buckhannon and Da'Naria Erwin Spencer's 18 points apiece.  Victoria Hamilton recorded her third career double-double and second of the season with 10 points and 10 boards.  Sarah Tabb also turned in a solid night with 10 points and collected 7 rebounds.

The Highlanders controlled the paint, 40-14, and also had a 20-0 advantage on the break.

A Buckhannon layup on Radford's first possession in the second half reduced the High Point's lead back to nine, but Tayler Tremblay would drain a jumper on the very next play to go up by double digits and keep it that way the rest of the game.

Trailing by as many as 21 in the first half, Radford battled back and brought the score within nine one more time, 43-34, with 42 seconds remaining on a free throw by Hamilton.  Two late freebies by the Panthers' Shamia Brown stretched the advantage back out, 45-34, at intermission.

The Highlanders will head on the annual “beach trip” this weekend.  A matchup with Charleston Southern on Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. kicks off the road portion of the conference schedule followed by a 7 p.m. tilt with Coastal Carolina on Jan. 16.
