CARLIN ERUPTS FOR CAREER-HIGH 21 KILLS, RADFORD FALLS TO HIGH POINT

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Emily Carlin eclipsed her career high in kills on Friday night, putting down 21, but the Radford volleyball team was upended 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 16-25, 22-25) by High Point in Big South action inside the Dedmon Center.

Carlin attacked at a .400 clip, adding three digs and two aces for the Highlanders (10-10, 1-3 Big South). Katelyn Meeks contributed 25 digs, while Yacine Meyer chipped in 13. Jena Braden (24) and Christine Beckham (21) combined for 45 assists.

Courtney Johnk led the Panthers (14-6, 3-1 Big South) with 14 kills and three block assists. Molly Barlow charted a team-best 15 digs and Maddie Simpson assisted on a match-high 37 attacks for HPU. The visitors were tough to get around at the net, tallying 13.5 blocks.

The first set was all Radford early on as the hosts doubled up High Point, 12-6. After a timeout by the Panthers, RU extended its lead to 19-11. However, HPU outscored the Highlanders, 14-4, the rest of the frame to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Neither team established separation in the second stanza until Radford went on a 4-0 run to capture a 17-13 advantage. After another Panther timeout, the Highlanders were determined to keep the visitors at bay and not have a repeat of the first frame. That mission was accomplished as RU seized the second stanza, 25-17, and squared the match heading into intermission.

High Point darted out to a 10-4 lead in the third set, prompting the hosts to call a timeout. Radford cut its deficit to four (14-10), but the Panthers remained resilient and finished off the frame to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Highlanders were forced to call an early timeout in the fourth frame after High Point snatched an 11-7 lead. The visitors expanded their advantage to six (17-11), but Radford trimmed its deficit to two (20-18) moments later. The Panthers outscored RU, 5-4, the rest of the way to claim the league victory.

In conjunction with Hall of Fame Weekend, the Highlanders face Campbell at 4:00 p.m. Saturday inside the Dedmon Center to wrap up their two-game homestand.
