VOLLEYBALL BLANKS CAMPBELL FOR SEVENTH SWEEP OF THE SEASON

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team rebounded nicely after Friday night's result by taking down Campbell, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-14), on Saturday evening inside the Dedmon Center.

The Highlanders improve to 11-10 overall, 2-3 in Big South play with the victory. The Camels drop to 7-15 for the season and remain the only squad to not have a league win on its resume.

After her career-high 21 kills against High Point, Emily Carlin put down a match-high 10 kills Saturday to lead RU. Christine Beckham (15) and Jena Braden (14) combined for 29 assists in the match. Katelyn Meeks sparked the defensive efforts with a match-high 15 digs.

Kelsey Marek and Sam Zuber each registered six kills to pace the Camels. Pia Holzgreve charted 10 digs, while Heather Wilson assisted on 15 attacks.

With the score tied at 4 early in the first frame, Radford went on a 5-0 run to distance itself from the visitors. Campbell fought back and tied the set three more times before the Highlanders went on a 3-0 run to take a 21-18 advantage. The Camels cut its deficit to one (22-21), but Radford claimed the next three points for the 25-21 set one victory.

The hosts doubled up Campbell, 10-5, in the early stages of the second stanza. The visitors trimmed the Highlander lead to three (15-12), but RU quickly responded by scoring the next three points for an 18-12 edge. The lead proved to be enough as the Highlanders seized the second set (25-18) and went into intermission ahead, 2-0, in the match.

Scoring the first five points in the third frame, Radford was well on its way to the squad's seventh sweep of the season. Campbell rallied one last time, winning five of the next six points to pull within one (6-5). Emma Deininger's kill on the next rally sparked a 10-0 run, which dashed any hope of a Camel comeback. The Highlanders cruised in with a 25-14 decision in the third set to snatch the pivotal conference tilt.

Radford embarks on a three-match road swing beginning with a Tuesday contest in Greensboro, N.C. against North Carolina A&T. The meeting with the Aggies, which is slated for 6:00 p.m., marks the final non-conference matchup for the Highlanders.
