WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS HOME SLATE AGAINST BLUEFIELD ON SUNDAY

RADFORD, Va. –
The Radford women's basketball team steps onto the Dedmon Center court for the first time in regular-season action when it hosts Bluefield College, Sunday, Nov. 18 at 3:00 p.m.
 
MEET THE RAMS                                                                                                                                                                                              
♦ After being selected to finish last in the 11-team Mid-South Conference, the Rams (4-0) have stormed out of the gates in 2012, winning their first four contests over Virginia Intermont (82-59), Allen (S.C.) (84-48), Bluefield State (72-63), and Mount Vernon Nazarene (69-43), scoring an average of 76.8 points per game and winning by an average margin of 23.5 points per game.
♦ The unblemished mark is two games better than the 2011-12 squad and matches the 2009-10 start for the Rams, who finished 20-11 that season.
♦ BC is led by Tequila McNeal (17.3 ppg), who was an All-American Honorable Mention last season, and newcomer Ashley White (13.0 ppg).
♦ The Rams finished with a program-best 22-12 mark in 2011-12, posting a sixth-place showing at the NCCAA National Tournament.
 
SERIES HISTORY                                                                                                                                                                                              
♦ The Highlanders/Rams series dates back to the 1975-76 season with RU leading, 2-0.
♦ The two teams last met during the 1989-90 campaign on Dec. 6 when the Highlanders prevailed, 73-40, inside the Dedmon Center.
 
WHAT'S NEXT                                                                                                                                                                                                    
♦ Radford will enjoy its Thanksgiving Break in the Sunshine State where the squad will be hoopin' it up in the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 23-24) in Coral Gables, Fla.
♦ The Highlanders are matched with Southern Illinois, Friday, and the winner will face the host Hurricanes/Florida Atlantic victor, Saturday, inside the BankUnited Center.
 
PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF                                                                                                                                                              
♦ In the last contest of the 2011-12 campaign, current sophomore Ayana Avery dropped 19 points to lead the Highlanders in the scoring column. She went 7-of-16 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from deep.
♦ In the season opener at Marshall, Avery once again led RU in scoring with 18 points. She hit 7-of-11 from the hardwood, including 4-of-6 from downtown.
 
LAST TIME OUT                                                                                                                                                                                                 
Jordynn Gaymon, Diani Mason and Victoria Hamilton set career highs and the Radford women's basketball team held off a late rally by UNC Greensboro to seize a 76-64 victory Tuesday night inside Fleming Gymnasium.
♦ Gaymon and Mason notched career highs in the scoring column with 16 and 14, respectively, for the Highlanders.
♦ Hamilton hauled in a career-high 14 rebounds and Ashley Buckhannon finished with 10 points, including a 6-for-6 performance from the charity stripe.
♦ Radford connected on 27-of-65 shots for a 41.5 percent clip and 19-of-24 free throws (79.2 percent). The Highlanders also won the rebounding battle, 47-40.
 
MAKING A SPLASH IN HER DEBUT                                                                                                                                                                
♦ Freshman Diani Mason made an eye-opening impression in her first outing as a Highlander. The Queens, N.Y. native exploded for 14 points on 3-of-6 shooting, including a 2-for-2 performance from behind the arc. Mason also made good use of her trips to the charity stripe, converting 6-of-8 attempts.
