HIGHLANDERS PUSH PAST KENNESAW TO EVEN RECORD AT 2-2

BOX SCORE RICHMOND, Ky. - R.J. Price scored a season-high 19 points, as did Javonte Green with 16, and Brandon Holcomb had his best game in a Radford uniform with nine points to lead RU to a 67-58 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday in the Comfort Suites / EKU Invitational.

The dynamic Highlander duo of Price and Green combined to outscore an impressive effort by Kennesaw's Markeith Cummings, who finished with a game-high 31 points. It was the defensive effort of Jalen Carethers, however, that shut down Cummings over the final 6:44 of the game and helped lead the Highlanders to an important early season win.

"This was a total team effort," RU head coach Mike Jones said of his guys. "I liked our attitude and mentality right out of the locker room."

The Highlanders stretched a lead just before the intermission of a game that was back-and-forth throughout the first 20 mintues. RU led 27-23 at the break, and the first play of the second half set the tone for the rest of the night. Holcomb's put-back dunk and subsequent free throw after being fouled on the play, spearheaded a Highlander surge that Kennesaw would never overcome.

"We got unbelievable effort from Brandon tonight," Jones said. He finished with the nine points, but also tied his career mark with four rebounds and a career-best three blocked shots.

Jones said he told his team to take care of the little things, and then you don't have to worry about the big things.

"Tonight we defended and took care of the ball - simple things."

Radford, now 2-2 on the season, finishes play on Sunday in the Comfort Suites Invitational by playing the host, Eastern Kentucky. The Highlanders and the Colonels will tip at 5:00 p.m.
