CARLIN’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LIFTS VOLLEYBALL TO 10TH SWEEP OF THE SEASON

BOX SCORE BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Emily Carlin notched her fifth double-double of the season with a match-high 14 kills and 14 digs to fuel the Radford volleyball team to its 10th sweep of the season over Campbell (25-13, 25-22, 25-18) Friday night from inside Gore Arena.

Joining Carlin in double-figure kills were Cheyanne James (11) and Rachel Fertitta (10). James attacked at a career-high percentage (.500), while Jena Braden compiled 39 assists for RU (14-14, 4-7 Big South). Katelyn Meeks anchored the backline with a match-high 18 digs and Rachel Wiechecki added 16 to round out three Highlanders with double-digit digs.

Lindsey Coats and Sam Zuber each roped eight kills to lead the Camels (7-21, 0-11 Big South) offensively. Pia Holzgreve dished out 26 assists, while Lauren Bewick contributed a team-best 14 digs on the defensive end.

After scoring the first four points of the match, Radford saw Campbell claw back to within 9-7. From there, the Highlanders embarked on an 11-5 surge to grab a 20-12 advantage. RU finished the frame on a 5-1 run to seize the opening stanza and a 1-0 lead in the match.

A James blast sparked an 11-1 run to open the second set for the Highlanders. The Camels showed resiliency, however, getting back to within two at 14-12. The two squads battled back and forth over the next several rallies. Out of a Campbell timeout, Zuber sent down a kill to trim the RU lead to 22-21. On the next point, Fertitta smacked a Braden pass onto the Camels' side of the court to initiate a 3-1 spurt that gave Radford the 2-0 lead going into intermission.

The Highlanders darted out to an 11-5 lead in the third set, but the hosts fought back to cut their deficit to 15-13. Out of a Radford timeout, James roped a kill to ignite a 7-2 rally and give the Highlanders a 22-15 advantage. The run proved to hold up as RU took the third frame, 25-18, to secure a crucial conference victory.

Radford returns to the court Saturday (Nov. 3) for a Big South clash with High Point. The Panthers fell victim to league-leading Liberty tonight in five sets. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. from inside the Millis Center.
