RU HOOPS: PRE-THANKSGIVING MATINEE ON WEDNESDAY OFFERS FREE ADMISSION WITH CANNED FOOD ITEM

RADFORD, Va. - The Radford men's basketball team will play host to Brevard on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dedmon Center. The pre-Thanksgiving game is open to free admission to those who bring a canned food item in exchange for a game ticket.

The contest can be heard live on the RU Sports Radio Network on WVRU 89.9 FM and WBLB 1340 AM and the internet by clicking HERE.

Wednesday's game marks the second time these two schools have met on the hardwood. The Highlanders defeated the Tornados in the opening game of the 2008-09 season, 74-55, in the Dedmon Center.

RU enters the game 2-3 overall with both wins coming in the EKU/Comfort Suites Invitational over Cincinnati Christian and Kennesaw State. Radford was well represented on the all-tournament team. RU's Javonte Green was named first-team, and Ya Ya Anderson earned second-team honors for the five-team tournament hosted by Eastern Kentucky University.

Green scored in double figures in each of the four games in which the Highlanders played, including a career-high 28 point performance against Eastern Kentucky and a career-high 13 rebound performance against Cincinnati Christian. The sophomore averaged 17.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.

Anderson set a career-high with 10 points against Towson and then topped it with a 14-point performance against Eastern Kentucky. The true freshman averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 rebounds over the four-game stretch.

Scouting the Tornados
Brevard is an NCAA Div. II member of the South Atlantic Conference. The Tornados enter today's contest with an 0-3 overall record having lost to Columbus State (84-49), Georgia Southwestern (67-62), and North Greenville (84-76). Brevard also played two exhibition games that do not count in their overall statistical numbers or its win-loss record. The Tornados dropped a 91-60 decision at UNC Asheville to open the season, and fell Monday night to Furman, 76-53.

The team is led in scoring by Dominique Pickett. The redshirt junior guard averages 18.0 points per game for BC. He is the only player averaging in double figures, but the Tornados have six more players that balance their offensive attack averaging at least 5.0 points per game.
