RADFORD STUMBLES AT HIGH POINT, 3-0

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford volleyball team suffered a straight-set defeat on the road at High Point Saturday evening. Set scores were 20-25, 20-25 and 15-25 from inside the Millis Center.

Rachel Wiechecki put down team highs in kills (seven) and digs (10) to pace the Highlanders (14-15, 4-8 Big South). Jena Braden handed out 23 assists.

Courtney Johnk roped 13 kills and Kristin Heldt added 11 to lead the Panthers (19-9, 8-4 Big South). Maddie Simpson assisted on a match-high 32 attacks, while Annemarie Chin anchored the backline with a match-high 16 digs.

The hosts raced out to a 7-2 lead in the opening frame. Radford answered and eventually took its first lead of the match following a Wiechecki kill. The Panthers scored the next four points to go ahead 18-15. The Highlanders got to within 20-19, but HPU ended the stanza on a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 edge in the match.

Radford held an early advantage (8-5) in the second set. The Panthers countered with a 5-0 spurt that gave the hosts the lead for good. A Cheyanne James kill trimmed the Highlanders' deficit to one (19-18), but High Point once again ended the set with a rally (6-2) to grab a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.

The Panthers were determined to end the match in three sets as they quickly staked a 14-5 advantage in the third frame. RU rallied to within seven (20-13) following a kill by Wiechecki, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome as High Point prevailed in the third set and swept the match.

Radford concludes its regular season inside the Dedmon Center next weekend when the squad hosts Gardner-Webb (Nov. 9) and UNC Asheville (Nov. 10). The matchup with the Runnin' Bulldogs is slated for 7:00 p.m., while Senior Day with UNCA begins at 4:00 p.m.
