MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT UNC ASHEVILLE, 88-62

BOX SCORE ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Matt Dickey led four UNC Asheville players in double figures with 22 points as the Bulldogs captured the 2012 Big South regular season title with an 88-62 victory over Radford in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
 
Asheville has won 13 of its last 14 to improve to 19-7 overall and 14-1 in the league, while the Highlanders fall to 5-22 and 2-13.
 
Dickey, the 2011-12 Preseason Player of the Year, finished a perfect 10-of-10 at the line for the Bulldogs, who went 38-of-42 (.905) at the charity stripe as a team.
 
Jaron Lane (14), J.P. Primm (13) and Chris Stephenson (11) also contributed double figures for UNC Asheville, which earned the right to host the conference tournament.
 
The Bulldogs shot 59.1 percent (13-22) in the second half to finish the game at 48.9 percent, while holding the Highlanders to just 38.9 percent.
 
Javonte Green paced Radford with 12 points, while Johnathan Edwards and Kyle Noreen added 11 each.
 
Asheville, which led by as many as 27, held a 38-25 advantage on the glass.
 
After back-to-back treys by Noreen put the Highlanders up 10-4, the Bulldogs responded with a 25-7 run to stretch the lead to double digits where it would stay. Asheville went 19-of-21 from the line in the opening half and led at the break, 42-24.
 
Radford will conclude its final road trip of 2011-12 on Tuesday at High Point.
