RADFORD HOLDS ON FOR 64-59 BRACKETBUSTERS WIN OVER BINGHAMTON

RADFORD, Va. – Blake Smith scored a season-high 15 points off the bench to lead three Radford players in double figures as the Highlanders held on to defeat Binghamton, 64-59, in Sears Bracketbusters action Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center.
 
With the victory, the Highlanders improve to 6-23 overall, while the Bearcats remain the only winless team at the Division I level falling to 0-26.
 
Smith finished 6-of-7 from the floor in 23 minutes to hit double figures for the second straight contest. Javonte Green recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow freshman R.J. Price added 11 points and four steals.
 
The Highlanders, who led 29-20 at the break, forced 18 turnovers, which led to 24 points at the other end.
 
Radford, which opened the second half 10-of-15 from the floor, used a 14-6 run capped off by a Tolga Cerrah dunk to go up, 49-35 with 12:56 to play.
 
After the Highlanders stretched their lead to as many as 16 (56-40) at the 11:16 mark, Binghamton responded with a 19-6 streak to cut the deficit to three, 62-59, with 17 seconds remaining, but was unable to get closer.
 
Ben Dickinson paced three Bearcats in double figures with 14 points to go along with a team-best nine rebounds.
 
Despite the loss, Binghamton finished with a 39-32 advantage on the glass.
 
Both clubs shot just over 40 percent.
 
The Highlanders will continue their season-ending homestand on Thursday evening when Presbyterian comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest.
