WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT WINTHROP, 67-56

BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C. – Jordynn Gaymon charted a career-high 15 points but Radford was unable to overcome Winthrop's productive second-half push as the Highlanders fell, 67-56, Monday evening at the Winthrop Coliseum.
 
Winthrop (15-11, 9-6 Big South) outscored Radford (14-12, 8-7 Big South) 14-7 to open the second half and pushed its lead to as many as 20 by the 3:43 mark. After scoring only 26 points in the first half on 31 percent shooting, the Eagles shot 52 percent in the final period and recorded 41 points in the final period. 
 
A distributor in the first half with 6 assists, Winthrop's Dequesha McClanahan scored 18 of her 21 points in the final stanza.  She would finish the game with a double-double, dishing out 10 dimes, as well. Diana Choibekova added 16 points and Samiya Wright added 14. Taylor Calvert also neared a double-double with 8 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
41 of Radford's 56 points came off the bench compared to just one free throw by a Winthrop player.
 
Gaymon led the way for Radford (14-12, 8-7 Big South) with her career-high 15 points to go along with 8 rebounds, while Tiana Cannon chipped in with 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers.  Victoria Hamilton recorded her sixth double-digit rebounding performance of the year with 11 boards.
 
Da'Naria Erwin Spencer sparked a 5-0 run to give Radford a 9-4 cushion in the early minutes.  Winthrop regained the lead at the 8:49 mark on a layup by Katie Fitzgerald. 
 
Radford went ahead once more on a jumper in the paint byEma Reskoska at 8:57, but Winthrop quickly countered on the next possession and held the lead for the remainder of the half. The Eagles ended the half on a 6-2 run over the final 5:31 to take a 26-22 advantage into intermission.
 
Six of Winthrop's nine buckets in the first half came off a dish from McClanahan, the league leader in assists.  In addition, five of the nine field goals came from behind the arc. 
 
The Highlanders return to the Dedmon Center on Homecoming this Saturday to face off against UNC Asheville.  Game-time is set for 2:00 and will be the annual NCAA Pack the House game.
