CHARLESTON SOUTHERN SPOILS RADFORD’S HOMECOMING / SENIOR DAY

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Kelvin Martin led all players with 21 points and 13 rebounds as Charleston Southern used a late run to hold off Radford, 65-59, in Big South men's basketball action on Homecoming / Senior Day at the Dedmon Center.
 
In addition to his 12th double-double of the season, Martin recorded five blocks and three steals, while going 9-of-14 at the charity stripe.
 
As a team, the Buccaneers made 25 of their 36 free throw attempts.
 
After the Highlanders went up 54-51 on a R.J. Price jumper, Charleston Southern (18-11, 11-7) broke open a contest that featured 15 lead changes and nine ties with a 14-5 run over the final 4 minutes and 48 seconds.
 
The Buccaneers also got double figures from Arlon Harper and Jeremy Sexton, who contributed 19 and 11, respectively.
 
Playing his final game in front of the home crowd, Johnathan Edwards paced Radford (6-25, 2-16) with 12 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Fellow senior Chance Smith added 10, while Javonte Green also had 10 points to go along with nine rebounds.
 
Both teams shot 41 percent in the first half to find themselves tied at intermission, 34-34.
 
Charleston Southern held a 40-35 edge on the glass.
 
The Highlanders finished the contest shooting 38.9 percent, while holding the Buccaneers to 35.4 percent.
 
On Monday, Radford will hit the road for the opening round of the 2012 Big South Men's Basketball Tournament. The Highlanders' destination and opponent is still to be determined.
