WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS UNC ASHEVILLE, 79-67 ON HOMECOMING

RADFORD, Va. -  Da'Naria Erwin Spencer (24) and Ashley Buckhannon (21) combined for 45 points to lead four Radford players in double figures as the Highlanders defeated UNC Asheville, 79-67, in Big South women's basketball action on Homecoming Saturday at the Dedmon Center.
 
Erwin Spencer finished 10-of-17 from the floor to hit the 20-point plateau for the 12th time this season, while Buckhannon hit all three of Radford's triples to go along with a game-high eight assists.
 
Tiana Cannon added 17 points and Jordynn Gaymon scored 10 of the bench for the Highlanders, who finished the game shooting 44.4 percent and with 44 points in the paint.

Radford (15-12, 9-7 Big South) used a 16-4 run midway through the second half to break open a close contest and take its largest lead, 60-44, with 9:29 to play.
 
The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 10 several occasions, but was unable to get closer.
 
Shonese Jones led the Bulldogs with 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including four of her club's six 3-pointers. Kelli Riles recorded 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Lindsey Thompson also finished in double figures for Asheville with 12.
 
The first half featured 12 lead changes before Radford went to the break up, 38-35.
 
UNC Asheville (7-19, 3-12 Big South), which shot 50 percent in the opening 20 minutes, got 20 points from Jones in the period.
 
Asheville, which shot 45.1 percent, finished with a 39-34 advantage on the glass.
 
The Highlanders forced 20 turnovers, which they turned into 24 points at the other end.
 
Radford will conclude its home slate Monday with a 7 p.m. tip against Gardner-Webb.
