RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's basketball will host Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. Monday evening to conclude the home portion of its 2011-12 schedule.
SERIES HISTORY
♦ The all-time series is now tied 5-5 due to the Highlanders' 63-50 win in late January in Boiling Springs, N.C. This game will determine who holds the edge in Radford, however, as it currently stands at 2-2.
THE OPENING TIP
♦ Radford leads the Big South in steals and ranks 12th in the nation with 12.2 per game.
♦ Over the last two games,
Tiana Cannon (14.5 ppg, 3.5 rebs) and
Jordynn Gaymon (12.5 ppg, 8.0 rebs) have really stepped up their play. In addition to netting 21 points on Saturday,
Ashley Buckhannon has dished out a career-high eight assists in each of the last two games, as well.
♦ The Big South's fourth leading scorer
Da'Naria Erwin Spencer paces the offense with 16.9 points per game while Buckhannon drops in 14.3 points. On Saturday, the duo hit the 20-point plateau in the same game for the third time this season. Erwin Spencer also recorded her 12th 20-point effort this year.
♦ Already in the Top-10 in career assists, Erwin Spencer needs two steals to solely possess 10th all-time in career thefts among Radford players. She would become the fourth player to make the list in both categories. Erwin Spencer is also nearing the Top-10 in scoring and needs just 85 points for that list, as well. She would join Stephanie Howard, Patrinda Toney and Johnette Walker as the only three players in history to make the Top-10 in all three categories.
LAST TIME OUT
♦ Radford placed four in double figures, Erwin Spencer (24), Buckhannon (21), Cannon (17) and Gaymon (10) to get past UNC Asheville, 79-67 and end a two-game slide. Radford held a 44-16 advantage in the paint. The Highlanders committed a season-low six turnovers and held a 24-4 advantage in points off turnovers due to forcing 20 Bulldog miscues.
