Series History: Liberty leads 32-24
RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's basketball concludes the regular season with a 7 p.m. Friday evening tilt at in-state rival Liberty.
SERIES HISTORY
♦ Liberty holds a 32-24 edge in the all-time series. Prior to last year, the Lady Flames had won eight straight, but Radford pulled out a come-from-behind win in Lynchburg, its first victory at the Vines Center in 16 tries dating back to 1996.
THE OPENING TIP
♦ Radford continues to lead the Big South in steals and ranks 13th in the nation with 12.3 per game. The Highlanders have recorded 10 or more steals in 19 games.
♦ Over the last three games,
Tiana Cannon (11.7 ppg, 5.7 rebs) and
Jordynn Gaymon (9.3 ppg, 7.0 rebs) have stepped up their play.
♦ The Big South's third leading scorer
Da'Naria Erwin Spencer paces the offense with 17.0 points per game while
Ashley Buckhannon drops in 14.5 points. In two games this past weekend, the duo hit the 20-point plateau in the same game for the third and fourth times this season. Erwin Spencer now has 13 20-point outings this year while Buckhannon has seven.
♦ Already in the Top-10 in career assists, Erwin Spencer recorded five steals against Gardner-Webb and joined the Top-10 in career thefts. She became the fourth player to make the list in both categories. Furthermore, she is also nearing the Top-10 in scoring and needs just 65 points to make that list, as well. She would join Stephanie Howard, Patrinda Toney and Johnette Walker as the only four players in history to make the Top-10 in all three categories.
LAST TIME OUT
♦ Despite placing Erwin Spencer and Buckhannon in the 20-point plateau, Radford dropped a 59-55 overtime decision to Gardner-Webb. It was the first overtime contest for the Highlanders this year. Cannon helped Radford on the boards, tying her career-high with 10 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE LADY FLAMES
♦ Winners of three straight, Liberty enters 20-8 overall and is atop the league standing at 15-2.
♦ Devon Brown leads the way in scoring at 17.0 points per game and also grabs 7.1 rebounds. Avery Warley comes in averaging a double-double at 13.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
♦ The Lady Flames lead the league in team field goal-percentage (44.5), field-goal percentage defense (33.6), rebounding margin (+15.9) and are second in scoring offense (70.9), scoring defense (56.6), blocks (4.6) and assists (13.5).
