JENKINS, MADDEN KEY SHUTOUT OF CAMPBELL

BOX SCORE
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Junior Jackie Jenkins twirled a two-hit shutout and senior Vicki Madden homered as Radford upended Campbell, 3-0 to take final game and earn the Big South series win on Saturday evening from Eakes Athletics Complex.

Jenkins allowed a leadoff single and a fifth-inning double as she struck out three and walked one to improve to 8-2. The righty retired 12 straight between the first and fifth innings and needed just 74 pitches as the Highlanders (18-9, 5-1 Big South) earned their first shutout in league play.

Madden belted a two-out, two-run home run in the opening frame that provided Jenkins and Radford the only runs it would need. It was the first of the season and the first since Madden's freshman year in 2008, when she hit 11.

The Highlanders threatened in the fifth with three hits, but they were unable to take advantage of a bases loaded situation as Olivia Scarborough struck out the final batter to keep the Highlanders off the scoreboard.

In the bottom half, the Camels got a leadoff double, their first hit since a leadoff single in the first, but Jenkins retired the next three batters, the final one swinging to douse Campbell's opportunity.

Junior Ryndee Ruch (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) pushed across Radford's third run with a two-out RBI single in the sixth, plating senior Michelle Beall (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County), who was hit to lead off the frame.

Ruch registered two of the Highlanders six hits.

Radford returns home for a non-conference twinbill on Wednesday, April 4 against in-state foe Longwood. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
