Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Micalah Sacre went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI and also struck out eight in the circle keying Radford to a game two 12-1 win and a split with Virginia on Wednesday evening from the Park. The Wahoos (20-18) took game one, 7-1 behind Melanie Mitchell's one-hitter.

Playing in front of several family, friends and former teammates from nearby Orange, Sacre matched two program records with a pair of two-run long balls and 10 total bases. She was also dominant in the circle, striking out eight and allowing a run on three hits.

The Highlanders (22-12) scored in each of the five innings and registered season highs in hits (12) and runs.

Sacre's first shot of the night highlighted a three-run first when she sent the ball over the centerfield fence for a quick 2-0 lead. Sophomore Jessie Hutchens lofted a sac fly to center for a 3-0 advantage.

Back-to-back jacks including Sacre's second in as many at bats and fifth of the season, doubled Radford's lead to 6-0 in the second. With two outs, Sacre got a hold of one and deposited into the trees in left. Senior Vicki Madden followed with a laser to dead center.

Madden finished 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs. Senior Nichole Beall scored three runs and was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Junior Jessica Agee added another two-out run with a RBI double to left center in the third. Agee also walked twice and scored a pair of runs.

Two more runs crossed the plate in the fourth as Madden roped a RBI double off the centerfield fence and pinch runner Maureen Hepner scooted home on a wild pitch.

Radford ended off the night with three more in the fifth as Sacre capped of her perfect 4-for-4 night with a RBI single, which was preceded by Beall's two-run triple. It was the first four-hit game for a Highlander this season.

The Wahoos tallied their only run in the third as Taylor Williams chopped an RBI single to left, but she was gunned out at second after Madden cut off the throw and threw a strike to second, ending the frame.

Melanie Mitchell held Radford to one-hit and struck out nine and Stephanie Harris was 2-for-3 with a home run as Virginia took game one, 7-1.

The Highlanders' lone hit came off the bat of senior Hannah Ojeda, a single in the third.

In the second, Virginia tallied the first run on a RBI single to center by Marcy Bowdren. A pair of bases loaded walks, combined with another free pass, error and single led to two more Wahoo runs in the fourth.

Set up by a dropped fly ball by the leftfielder, Radford executed a steal of home on a first and third situation to get on the board in the sixth.

Virginia got that run back and three more in the bottom half of the sixth. A sac fly by Giannina Cipolloni after Kennedy Bixby tripled with one out pushed the lead to 4-1. Stephanie Harris' two-out three-run long ball made it a 7-1 ball game.

Junior Jackie Jenkins suffered the loss in 4-plus innings of work as she surrendered three runs, two earned on four hits. She struck out one and walk four.

Radford heads home this weekend for a three-game series with Presbyterian. The squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 and one on Sunday, both beginning at 1 p.m.
