MEN’S GOLF READY TO TEE OFF BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

LIVE SCORING

RADFORD, Va. –
The Radford men's golf program is set to hit the links Apr. 16-18 when it competes in the 2012 Big South Championship, held at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor in Greenwood, S.C.

Heading into the tournament, the Highlanders are 91-53-1 in overall head-to-head action.  Radford has three Top-5 team finishes and four 6-10 showings.  In addition, individual players have handed in Top-10 scores 11 times this year.

Weston Eklund and Michael Wade, who have recorded the top score in all 9 events this year, will lead the Highlanders into the 54-hole extravaganza.

Eklund has recorded Radford's top score in all five events this spring and also in the fall opener.  He has four Top-5 showings and possesses the Big South's fifth-best stroke average (72.1).  Eklund has posted a pair of fourth-place finishes, at the Spring Hill Suites Intercollegiate and in the Bash at the Beach.  He has three sub-par showings this year, as well.

Wade is tied for the second most Top-10 performances in the league this year with six.  In addition to holding the Big South's ninth-best stroke average (73.0), Wade has 14 rounds at or under par, tying Eklund for tops in that category.  His best performance came at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, where he tied for fourth at three-under 139.

An outstanding spring by Callum Tarren has provided Radford with a solid third team scorer.  Along with Eklund, Tarren led Radford at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational with a career-best 220.  Tarren has a low round of 71 and his top performance came at the Wexford Intercollegiate, where he placed 14th overall.

Tanner Carbaugh will encounter the tough Patriot Club course for the very first time.  Carbaugh has competed in 6 tournaments as a true freshman and has a low round of 71.

Last summer Ryan Rettberg became the third golfer in program history to qualify for the U.S. Amateur.  This year, Rettberg has played in two tournaments and recorded a 228 and 227 in each of those events.  He has a low of 71, set in the second round at the Charleston Shootout.
