CARBAUGH’S 72 GUIDES RADFORD ON FIRST DAY OF BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

RESULTS

GREENWOOD, S.C. –
Radford freshman Tanner Carbaugh handed in an even-par 72 and led men's golf to a seventh-place standing after the first round of the Big South Championship Monday afternoon.

In his first conference championship, Carbaugh birdied the par-4 2nd, 6th and 12th.  He went one-under to cover the back nine, finished the round tied for 11th and sits just five strokes out of first place.  It was his second round this season at or under par.

As a team, Radford entered the clubhouse at 301 and are seventh heading into second round action.

Callum Tarren recorded Radford's second score with a 73 (+1).  After going one-under on the front nine due to a birdie on the par-5 8th, Tarren gave two shots back over the last nine holes and finalized the day in a tie for 18th.

Currently in a 31st-place tie, Weston Eklund began his day in the red at one-under 35, joining Tarren as the only two Highlanders to do so on 1-9.  Eklund would cap his first round at four-over 76.

Also competing for the Highlanders in the season finale are Ryan Rettberg and Michael Wade.  Rettberg handed in an 80, while Wade recorded an 81.

The 54-hole event is being played on a 7,120-yard, par-72 course layout at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor.

Second round action gets underway tomorrow with Wade swinging away first at 8:30 a.m.
